Octo Price Manual
Octoprice User Manual
Your complete guide to tracking energy usage and costs with Octopus Energy.
1. Getting Started
To begin using Octoprice, you need to connect the plugin to your Octopus Energy account. Head to the Settings tab and provide the following:
- API Key: Found in your Octopus Energy dashboard under "API Access".
- Account Number: Your unique account ID (e.g., A-12345678).
- Billing Day: The day your monthly billing cycle ends. If your bill starts on the 24th, enter 23.
Once saved, go to the Account Sync section within the Settings tab to pull your property, meter, and tariff details.
2. Dashboard & Charts
The main dashboard provides a visual breakdown of your energy consumption and costs.
- Electric Import Chart: Shows energy you've bought from the grid.
- Electric Export Chart: Shows energy you've sold back to the grid (if you have solar/batteries).
- Gas Chart: Shows your gas consumption.
Use the **Date Range Picker** at the top to view data for any specific period. The plugin calculates costs based on your specific half-hourly rates for that period.
3. Billing Summary
Located below the charts, the Billing Summary provides two distinct views:
Selected Period Summary
Calculates the total cost for the exact dates you've selected in the dashboard picker.
Current Billing Period Summary
Calculates your running total for the current month, based on your "Billing Day". It also shows a countdown of days remaining in the current cycle.
Grand Total Formula: Electric Import + Gas - Electric Export
4. Task Scheduler
The Schedule tab allows you to automate data retrieval and maintenance. You can configure each task to run Daily, Weekly, or keep it Disabled.
| Task | Recommended Frequency |
|---|---|
| Sync Prices & Consumption | Daily (Twice) |
| Sync Account Details | Weekly |
| Deduplicate Tasks | Weekly |
Run Now: Use the "Run Now" buttons in the scheduler to trigger any task immediately.
5. Manual Syncing
If you need to force a full data refresh, use the Sync All Price Data button in the Settings tab. This will fetch all historical data for the products you are subscribed to. Note that this may take several minutes depending on the data volume.
6. Troubleshooting
- Missing Data Warning: If you see "Missing X Days of data", it means Octopus has not yet published half-hourly readings for those dates. Data usually lags by 24-48 hours.
- 504 Timeout: Heavy data syncing sometimes strains servers. Use the Task Scheduler to run syncs in the background to avoid this.
- Duplicate Meters: If you see multiple entries for the same meter, run the "Deduplicate Meters" task in the Schedule or Settings tab.
